The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies

The Lemonade War is a book about two siblings who usually make a lemonade stand together. One day they get in a fight then the older sibling, the brother, finds a friend and makes a lemonade stand with him to make his younger sister mad. She goes to find a friend and makes a lemonade stand with her. When the brother finds out, they make a bet and decide that whoever makes $100 first gets the other person’s money. I like this book because it’s exciting to see who gets the most money in the end. -- Sierra La Rue

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Childen by Ransom Riggs

Ms. Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is an exciting and mildly scary book. Most of the book is about a kid named Jacob trying to find out what killed his grandfather and why (his grandpa’s torso was ripped open by something with long claws). His grandpa’s last words were to find a home that he lived in when he was younger. You wouldn’t like this book if you do not have a logical mind. Follow Jacob as he ventures into a world unlike the one he’s used to.

Food, Girls, and Other Things I Can't Have by Allen Zadoff

Andrew Zansky is a kid with a lot of problems. One of his big problems is that he is fat and he is in high school. Andrew joins the football team to become popular. He thinks that if he becomes popular all his problems will go away. I like this book because it is funny. It made me laugh when he got embarrassed in front of everyone.

Deviant by Adrian McKinty - Anthony S.

Deviant is about a boy named Danny Lopez who just moved into a small town in Colorado. Just as he moves in, a cat killer begins to steal cats and leaves their bodies in the open with their hearts cut out of them. Danny fears that his cat, Jeffrey, will get killed. Danny makes a plan to catch the killer. He puts his cat in his friend’s house and waits in the cold, cruel night. He follows the killer and confronts him but his plan takes an unexpected turn. I liked the book because it’s very exciting and mysterious. The reason I like this book is because it has action, mystery, and adventure. Read the book to find out the shocking truth.

Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins - Brianna

The book is about a girl named Lola Nolan. She wants to become a fashion designer. She designs her own outfits that she wears everyday. Lola is in high school, and her friend is a girl named Lindsey. One day the Bell twins, Cricket and Calliope, return to the neighborhood. The Bell twins and Lola have bad history so they are not friends anymore. The night that the twins move in, Cricket says hi to Lola through the window. The book goes on to tell about the relationship between the Bell twins and Lola.
I liked the book because the story pulled me in. I liked the characters in the book a lot. I would recommend this book to girls who like books that take place somewhere else. This book takes place in San Francisco which has a lot of Victorian houses and zigzag streets.

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness --Sierra

This is a sad story of a boy named Conor O’ Mally who lives in England. He is going through a very tough and sad life. For one, his parents are divorced. His dad lives in America with his new wife and children, and his mom is in the hospital with brain cancer. In the story there is a monster which comes to life out of a yew tree. Conor is not afraid of the monster but is curious about why the monster came. The monster came to tell him three stories and about what Conor needs to do when his mother dies. At the end of the story Conor does what he needs to do… speaks the truth. The only way to find out what the truth is is to read this sad and exciting tale about Conor O’ Mally. If I had to rank this book on a scale of 1 to 10 I would give it a ten because it is sad and dramatic. I really liked when Conor spoke the truth of his life because it was the whole meaning of the monster coming to life

Unwanteds by Lisa McMann--Angel V.

Every year in a place called Quill there is a purge to decide is you are a wanted or an unwanted. The wanteds go to a university but the unwanteds go to their “death”. The day of the purge two twins are separated. Aaron Stowe becomes a wanted but his brother, Alex becomes an unwanted. As Alex tries to contact his brother he risks his life and the secret of the unwanteds.

I liked this book because it is an adventurous and magical story. It made me think which one I would be “wanted” or “unwanted”.
